Addicted to music..? - August 8th 2009, 05:46 PM

Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to be addicted to music at all, does anybody know?

I was just curious since I find it hard to do anything without some form of music playing, I'm always thinking of the next song to put on if it's silent at the moment, and whenever I've got nothing to do I always pick up my guitar and start singing, I can't even fall asleep without some form of music playing xD

Thanks for your help!

I think it's possible to be addicted to pretty much anything.
If you mentally depend on something then I see that as a mental addiction.

Ofcourse this dosnt seem like a negative addiction to me at all unless if you maybe get stuck in a situation where you don't have any music and have a panic attack or something.
Quite often music stops me having panic attacks or at least calms them a little.

So yeah, i'd say it's possibly to be mentally addicted to music.

Well if there was no music I wouldn't have a panic attack I'd just start singing or something ^^
And I always have my iPod with me and charged so there's not many occasions when I'm without music...
Thank you for your answer (:

Yeah, sounds a lot like me- you could be mentally, but it seems to do you no damage...so Rock On!

I have to admit, music rocks, I can never leave my house without my Ipod, so it is possible to be addicted to music

but music is awesome!

i think i know how you feel when you can't do anything without music.
the first thing i do when i wake up every morning is turn on the radio. I don't think i could move if i didn't have music to listen too.
and all during the day i sing songs in my head.(can't really sing out in class...thad be akward)

I have a pretty bad addiction too, I watch TV with one of my earphones in and I sleep with my Ipod playing. It's quite worrying but I guess I just need a beat of something flowing through my ears.

Re: Addicted to music..? - August 9th 2009, 10:44 PM

okay I'm tired so forgive this:

I was reading this and I was like "hell I don't listen to music that much" then I realised I had my ipod in... >.>

I asked some of my real life friends (yeah I actually have those... who'd a guessed) whether they thought I listened to too much music. They all said yes.

I guess I like to have a song for every occasion. Every emotion that I'm feeling.

I honestly don't think there is anything wrong with needing music around all the time. Music can be extremely good for you in my opinion

Re: Addicted to music..? - August 9th 2009, 10:44 PM

I totally understand your music addiction. I cannot stand the silence (which reminds me, my comp just booted up, so iTunes isn't open yet... there, fixed), and listening to music can put me into any kind of positive mood. don't know why, but music will never put me into anger or sadness, even the sad songs are happy to me.
when it comes to playing the music, I am a fairly competent double bassist (the jazz style, not a guitar), and whenever I perform in my school orchestra, its such a rush, something like a natural high, which I would definently say I love.
If it music weren't my addiction, it would far and away be my obsession.

Re: Addicted to music..? - August 9th 2009, 11:42 PM

I never leave my house without my iPod ....

... my earphones are practically always threaded under my shirt, up my back so I can listen to music during class and when I walk long distances.

So I think it's safe to say that music addiction = yes.

You can lose yourself. Everything. All boundaries. All time.

And just when the sweet confusion is so intense you think you're gonna die... you kind of do.

Leaving you alone in your separate body, but the one you love is still there.

That's a miracle.

You can go to heaven and come back alive. You can go back anytime you want with the one you love.
