I am 100% addicted to - August 26th 2009, 01:25 AM

coca cola.
This isn't a joke or anything.
It started as a joke.
I would laugh about it.

But I drink at least 2 litres a day.
And if I dont, people note that Im aggitated and aggressive.
I try and resist it and I get very very frustrated and anxious.
When I drink it after like trying to go a day or so without it, I find that I am instantly relieved.
If I dont drink it, I am thirsty all the time and nothing I drink soothes the thirst until I grab a glass of coke.

Now I just need tips on how to kick this habit.

You are like my brother he is addicted to coca cola, what he did is that he literally stopped. One day he said no more and drank less and less everyday and right now he only drinks like 1 or 2 cans.
He stopped because my sister and me would tell him and kinda made fun of him but it was for his own good.

Hey Marie

One of my friends was the same way. Every day he would be drinking coke, before school, during lunch, after school, and even in class! It got so bad that he went to the doctor, and the doctor told him that he had to stop because it would hurt his insides, so then he started telling us that whenever he was drinking a coke to kick him. You should really try and stop, just to help your health.

No one takes us seriously, I swear.

I told my parents, my dad laughed and offered me a can of coke which I naturally accepted!!!

What I am currently doing is refusing to go to the shop and also making sure I dont have money on me. But I think it's the sugar and caffeine that I am addicted to because the last three days I've drank like a jar of coffee to myself and I have three sugars.. seriously I think I need a detox but it's so stressful that I just want a way to do it without having to get all aggressive

It isn't the coke your addicted to its the caffeine in it. read up on caffeine addiction (withdrawals last up to 9 days)

Caffeine addiction is pretty common, but still nothing to laugh about, as it can be serious and can be harmful to your health.

I wouldn't suggest trying to just stop all together at once, because, as you've already mentioned, you get agitated, which is basically the first stage of withdrawal. It's very possible that you could get serious headaches/migraines if you try to quit cold turkey, and they're certainly no fun, so you'll probably want to try weaning yourself off of it.

First of all, try to never drink directly from a bottle or can. Pour yourself a glass. For the first few days, make this the only change. Don't even worry about how much you're drinking, don't even try to reduce the amount you drink, just use a glass. You should keep a count of how many glasses you drink in a day though.

Then, you can try a few different things. First, I would suggest you not buy coke when you go out. Either take water with you, don't carry money for soda, or use willpower to keep yourself from buying any. Drink it only at home.

You can try reducing the amount of glasses of coke you drink in a day, you can start pouring less and less into each glass, or you could mix the coke with either caffeine-free coke or water. The advantage to water is that first of all, you're taking in less caffeine, and second of all, it won't taste as good so you won't even want to drink it as much.

Keep working on reducing the amount you drink by any of those methods until you break the addiction. If you find it really too hard to do on your own, you might want to talk to a doctor about it, as you've shown signs of physiological addiction which is a medical issue, and a doctor could help you find effective treatment.

Try drinking less each day or you can buy cans instead of the 2 litter things that may help.

I'm going to post a warning that drinking more than 1.5 litres of coke a day can cause paralysis.
I used to be addicted to it aswell and whenever I hadn't had a can I'd get a headache. I have to say Lyndsay's suggestions were very good so I'm just going to agree with them.

What you are addicted to is the caffeine in the coca cola, but I understand exactly how you feel. Because I have been addicted to coke, and still am actually. Only now I limit myself to one coke a day (plus one cup of coffee in the morning). Check out this thread to see what other users said about what to do with a caffeine addition. http://forums.teenhelp.org/f124-addi...ine-addiction/

haha. my best advice would be to limit yourself everyday.
soon the wanting for more will go down and it won't be such a problem.

reading this made me crave soda though. haha.
