Chocolate - September 1st 2009, 09:24 PM

I'm trying to quit my chocolate habits ... with VERY little success.

Everyday I need some sort of chocolate fix ... sometimes after every meal but definitely everyday. Reeses puffs, chocolate chunk cookies, s'mores, you name it.

I don't know how to stay away from it. I'm trying the whole "keep chocolate out of the house" thing, but it's always here! argh! I blame the rents for having it in the house all the time.

I'm moving back to my apartment for school and I'll be surrounded by temptations of chocolate (roommates are chocolate lovers too ... except one).

Any suggestions to kill this chocolate habit?

Ages ago I couldnt go a day without chocolate. My favourites were munching on cadburys fingers, jaffa cakes and mint after eights.

Instead of eating chocolate, why not try chewing gum, or get those yummy cereal bars.

That worked for me.

You shouldn't buy the chocolate in the first place then the temptation to eat it wouldn't be there! But if your parents buy it then that is rather hard. You could try limiting the amount you have each day. Just like have a certain amount each day and you could try to cut down how much you have. Or try eating other things that Jaymi has suggested.

I eat a kiss after every lunch I have, they are so good I don't know why you want to stop eating chocolate. but if you do like Jaymi said try chewing gum or another type of candy. Aklso you can try eating ice it keeps your mouth busy alot of time.

Hey, I know a few people who are addicted to things, and although I don't understand what it's like to be addicted to something, apart from World of Warcraft, when I was addicted, but the answer is not quiting cold turkey, try to cut down on the amount of chocolate each day, and it will help much better and easier than never eating chocolate all together.

Cutting any addiction can be tough, the first thing I would say is do not try stopping cold turkey, if you do it is highly likely that you will be unsuccessful, it is much better to cut down gradually, say to yourself i will only eat x amount of chocolate today and cut down gradually as the days go on.
Also, chewing gum is really great for trying not to eat chocolate as is fruit, what I often do if I want some chocolate is to go grab an apple of soemthing instead as it is still really sweet.
Finally, remember it is still okay to enjoy a bit of chocolate every now and again.

Rather than trying to quit cold turkey, take a little out at a time. First stop using it as a snack and just as a desert after meals. After a while of that have it one less time a day. Then again one less time a day and so on and so on until you can go for a full day without chocolate.


Whatever it is, chances are I've been there.

I'd say you should replace the chocolate with foods that will give you a similar effect.

Lets think about what chocolate is:
Chocolate is a combination of cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter and often stabilizers.

This combination of ingredients cause a quick spike in serotonin, caffeine and sugar levels. Consuming that would cause you to get a little bit of a 'high', but because of nature of the chocolate, it doesn't last for very long.

To kick your chocolate addiction you need to gradually decrease how much you consume, and consume things that will cause similar, but more long term 'highs' or a steady level of serotonin.

try brushing ur teeth wen u crave it ! it does actually work cause u no it will taste bad after u brushed !
