Addicted to school work - October 18th 2009, 06:26 PM

I feel like I am addicted to doing my homework. I pour myself into my school work as a distraction from everything else. I do incredibly well, but I never feel any satisfaction when I succeed. I don't really have a drive to learn... I just do it because it's something to take my mind off of everything else. Now that I'm getting treatment it's getting more difficult to focus on my work sometimes.. I miss when I could just concentrate for hours at a time. Anyone else have this problem?

Wait, what are you getting treatment for? What is the treatment?

My problem has always been that I couldn't get started on or focus on the work because I'm a perfectionist and I was absorbed in other problems.

I don't see why it is a problem in itself. It sounds to me like your problem is whatever it is that you are avoiding by allowing yourself to become completely absorbed in your work.

Hey Alana, I'm glad you're getting treatment. You don't have to say why or for what if you don't want to. This is a problem for some people when they use it as a distraction from other things. It's only a problem because it allows you to avoid things. As far as coping mechanisms go, this one isn't so bad. I usually have the opposite problem, I do other things to avoid my homework.
