Picking my nails -

I always have dead skin around my fingernails that I pick at. If I have chapped lips I pick at them too. It's like an addiction...I enjoy doing it. Weird right? I really want to stop so I'll have pretty hands. Any advice?
PS I've done this my whole life. it is triggered a little by stress but I'll do it when bored or concentrating too. |

Hey there.
If it's dead/dry skin that you have a habit of picking at, it might work to just try and keep the dry skin from developing in the first place. That way there is nothing to pick at. Simple things like using chapstick often and a deep moisturizer on your hands at night and throughout the day could help solve the problem. Otherwise, just have something with you to keep your hands busy when you get that urge to pick at your skin. Keep a stress ball with you or some sort of putty that you can mess around with. hey.
ive been picking at my nails all my life. my stress relief? eating. i no, i no, that sounds lik a turn for the worst, but i stick to small stuff. i chew on my pens in class, i munch on veggies at home. i chew gum in the car. if i start picking at my nails and skin (i do exactly that too, feels good i no, idk why either) then i just try to stop, buit since its a life long habit, its hard, so im still workin on it myslef. try nail hardening formulas. that way your nails are too hard to pick at. and wash your hands with gentle hand saop. that will stop the dead skin beign agitated by worn out hands. if you keep picking, start chewing. good luck (for me too haha). |

I tried cutting my nails and putting on cuticle oil...it helped. Plus, I am making an effort to stop myself. My new motive is "Every time I pick my nails Agent Smith assimilates another person". I am such a matrix nerd. :P
Some of the nails are healed so I'm hoping they will all heal. |
