Question Is sucking thumb bad - June 18th 2010, 10:24 AM

People mention that sucking your thumb is bad because you end up with buck teeth. also yout thumb shrinks or get's bigger. I suck my thumb for comfort and I also stroke my nose I'm 13 and It can be embarrasing at times but I don't think I grow at of it

The main problem is if you do it quite regularly it can cause a change in the occlusion of your teeth and in extreme cases can leave you with proclined upper teeth and retroclined lower teeth as shown in pics

Yeah. It can definitely affect your teeth. I had a dummy for many years, and it just added to the already unalined jaw I have. So see if you can get yourself to cut it out. Or your dentist will be cursing you in a few years.
