Re: Please don't laugh or tease me - June 13th 2011, 05:01 PM

Until last year, I slept with anywhere from three to five stuffed animals all the time. Then I got put those aside cold turkey, and started having panic attacks. So I got this big stick and set it beside my bed, and that became my 'security blanket' type thing.

Now, I sleep in my bed with my big stuffed lion, and if I have a really bad nightmare or the power's off, then my little sister lets me sleep with her (I'm only fourteen, after all). When I sleep in my room, I have to see the door, and I have to have immediate access to a lamp.

... and the big stick still needs to be beside my bed.

I'm a finnicky sleeper. Lol.

I'm 19 and I sleep with a stuffed toy still! I don't need it to sleep, but I like having in there! Can you sleep ok without your blanket, or do you really need it to get a good sleep? Maybe just try to work on being able to sleep without it so that if you have to go on school camps or whatever it won't be an issue. But like everyone's saying, it's not embarassing don't worry!

I wouldn't worry too much. I've had the same stuffed teddy bear for over 10 years and I have concluded that it will be the first thing I grab if my house burns down lol. It's normal, I know plenty of friends in this similar situation. But if it's a problem for you I would try to find where it stems from.

I'm 15 and sleep with two dolls which I've had since I was 1 year old. I don't want to give them up any time soon.
Don't be embarrassed by it!! Honestly, lots of people sleep with stuffed toys etc. When you're able to quit, that's when you're ready, but don't rush into it!!
I used to sleep with a teddy bear too, but someone called me a baby for doing so (when I was about 10) so I got upset and threw it in the bin. I still regret it now

There is nothing wrong with sleeping with stuffed animals. I know many, many people who sleep with stuffed animals. If something is a contort then why would you what to stop. Eventually when you find your soulmate they take the place of the stuffed animals in most cases.

Don't worry about them...they are security for you in an insecure world!

I just wanted to add that I sleep with a stuffed dog, a stuffed frog, a blankie and a small wooden cross. So yeah, just adding my number to the people who think it's fine.
If you really want to stop, some of the suggestions on here are great.
I didn't want to take things to a sleepover so I started sleeping with my toy on the other side of the room, where you can still see it, so that I got used to not sleeping with it.
