Cough Drops? - September 27th 2011, 10:52 PM

Hmm ok so when I get sick, we usually get the Halls Breezers which are non-menthol. I cannot stand the taste of menthol.
And when I get those, I just love the taste of them. One time I ate 5 within 2 hours. That's quite a lot.
I was just wondering if there was a way I could use those cough drops without excessively eating them.

Just try to only have 1 an hour or so. Limit yourself.

And it doesn't seem like too hard of a problem to deal with, because you say [or I inferred] that you only do this when you're sick? So unless you're sick all the time, you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

I'm actually so bad with this. I get the menthol ones, and literally go through an entire package a day while I'm sick. I've surpassed 20, completely serious. I know you're technically only supposed to have one an hour or something, but I'm not sure if there are any real medical risks? Does anybody know for sure?

Cough drops can contain dextromethorphan, which is a hallucinogen. If you take enough of it, it would be considered substance abuse.

Are you sure they all do? I was pretty sure only the ones over the counter are not.

Halls probably don't have the potential to harm you, because although they do have medical properties, it really isn't extremely harmful because the doses are so small. Although they do have the potential to harm you, it would take more than one package. Most people become "Addicted" to them because they like the sugar, so try a lollipop.

That being said, if you have a sore throat or are coughing a lot, I would recomend having no more than twenty five Halls, because as I said, they can be dangerous in very large doeses (Far more than one package could provide) also try switching to Halls Vitamin C, those have less medical properties than regular halls (Albeit not much, but they still soothe your throat).
