Hey, Alan. It's nothing to be embarrassed about--you're certainly not the first person to have a problem playing video games. First, though, are you positive it's an addiction? If it's interfering with your life and you're placing too much importance on the games themselves, then it could be an addiction. Have you tried talking to someone about this? That could be your parents, a counselor at school, or a religious figure (such as a pastor). They could help you identify why you want to play video games so often and what steps you can take to cut down on your time playing games. For the time being, however, my advice would be to find other hobbies that you like or try new things--anything to expand your horizons, so to speak. Hang out with your friends and get out of the house as much as possible. Playing a sport could also be a possibility, as could be joining a club.
I hope this helps and you can PM me anytime.
"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it." |
