Be a Good Driver! - May 12th 2012, 10:23 PM

NOTE: THIS MAY NOT BE IN THE RIGHT PLACE, AT ALL.
I passed my driving test a while ago and I just got my first car! So I'm now driving on my own, and it's my goal to be a really good driver and not cause any accidents or anything, that would be nice.
Any advice on how to cope without my instructor there?

It's no surprise that you'll soon forget about me

Congratulations
Just stay calm and pay attention to the conditions.
My mum gave me a good piece of advice- Drive as if all other drivers are idiots. It means just expect to be the smarter driver who prevents accidents.

Re: Be a Good Driver! - May 17th 2012, 08:03 PM

I live in a city, so this was important for me to learn.
-Be calm. We tend to make more mistakes when we over think things and are tense.
-Pay attention at all times. Know your surroundings. Who/what is all around you at all times. I frequently look behind me and to my sides whilst driving. It helps for switching lanes. It makes me that much more sure that there isn't a car in my blind spot.
-Practice. Drive as often as you can and afford. When your mom needs to go get milk, offer to go for her.
-Remember the things that your instructor told you. While it's still fresh in your mind, jot things down.
-NEVER trust the other cars around you. You NEVER know what they're going to do. Even if they use their blinker.. make sure that's for sure what they're going to do.
-Be consistent.

Good luck!
