Exclamation Thinner? - July 10th 2013, 08:36 AM

Hi, so I want to get thinner for summer, as quick as possible. I understand eating healthy but I need to know what exercises work on tightening your stomach and legs (thighs mostly)

Cardio burns fat all over, there's no specific exercise that will burn fat off any specific area of your body, but as for toning up and building muscle for stomach & thighs; squats, lunges, crunches, Russian twists, planks, and like leg lifts while laying your back are all good. Also swimming works almost every muscle in your body while performing cardio, so it's kind of a do-all. Building muscle and burning fat.

Hey there.
Like Ashley said, it's impossible to only lose weight in certain parts of your body. If you lose weight, you will lose it everywhere.
Cardio exercises are definitely very effective at burning fat. I recommend running, as it burns a lot of calories (about 100 per mile) and tones your legs nicely (especially your thighs and your calves). Swimming is also great, like Ashley suggested.
You can also lift weights and do core exercises, which you can find on the internet and on YouTube. Mostly, just keep at it and stay healthy. This also means making sure you're eating enough (likely even more than before you started working out). Good luck!

Working out doesn't necessarily make you "thinner." If you need to lose weight, cutting your food intake and exercising will help you lose weight and become thinner. But if you don't need to lose weight, exercising can help you build muscle, but you may not look any "thinner." For example, if I were to start exercising regularly, I wouldn't lose that much weight nor look any thinner (since I've been the same pants size for the last six years, but my weight has gone up and down. My actual waist size didn't change even when I go up or down in weight, therefore, even when I've lost weight, I don't necessarily get "thinner" but my muscle and fat redistributes and changes.

I'd recommend asking a doctor about your weight and ask what you really need. You may need to build muscle, you may need to lose fat, or you may just need to stabilize your weight and improve your health in a better diet or exercise. I'm not a doctor, I can't tell you what you need.

Try to focus less on being "thin" and more on being healthy. Cardio is great for burning fat. Even things as simple as walking make a difference. The more you build muscle generally the faster your metabolism will be. Try to exercise between 3-5 days per week. And obviously there's eating healthy. That doesn't mean you can't have the occasional treat though! Everything in moderation; that's the key here.
