Cool Life Goals - November 7th 2015, 01:09 PM

My biggest life goal is to be a hero and an inspiration. Not for myself, just because no one else will. Literally, I've seen people getting abused, and my friends didn't do a thing. Me? I helped the guy. I was there for him, and I'll be there for anyone who needs me. I realized I understand these things well, I know what is right, I know what is wrong. I know how to act, and how to apologize. Any thoughts? What are your life goals?

I actually agree with your life goals. It feels great to help others and many people don't realize how much just 1 person can do to change a lot. Glad to see that there are others out there that think the same way!

Those are great goals.
I have a goal of helping children that have had traumatic experiences and/or that struggle with mental illness.

My goal is to "fight the long defeat." This is a quote from Paul Farmer in a biography by him called Mountains Beyond Mountains when he is talking about his career within medicine (particularly serving the poor, which there is no money in and he receives a lot of push back), the entire quote reading:
Quote:
“How about if I say, I have fought for my whole life a long defeat. How about that? How about if I said, that’s all it adds up to is defeat?… I have fought the long defeat and brought other people on to fight the long defeat, and I’m not going to stop because we keep losing. Now I actually think sometimes we may win.”
I love this quote (while reading the book while studying abroad, I actually searched around my hostel room to find a pen to park the quote) because it describes my goals from a career level to a personal level. My career is in public health, which is generally a long defeat of fighting politics, economic, biological, and many other barriers that make health equity difficult to attain. You win sometimes, but you're usually fighting an uphill battle and it's really difficult to see results until years after. But you keep fighting because it's the right thing, and because you help people even if nobody else ever sees your worth haha.

On a personal level, it definitely describes my feelings with my mental illnesses. My recovery has been a roller coaster and I honestly feel shitty nearly every day that I wake up, but I continue to fight and be the best person, girlfriend, student, etc, that I can be, even if my brain does everything to get in my way. It inspires me to no excuses. It doesn't matter if you'll fail, you keep fighting that long defeat.

My goal is to just keep getting up after every fall.

Great life goal you have there, Sen!

I used to have tangible and self-serving goals that does not really fulfil me. My current life goal is to help teen girls with issues transitioning into adulthood.
