Cool idea that I have! - February 13th 2010, 03:20 PM

Hey, so I'm not so sure if this goes here but since it's a possible ambition I thought this is where it should go!

Music is really powerful, and I was thinking this morning about the possibility of creating an internet radio stream that plays songs that help people who are feeling down. There are TONS of songs with encouraging lyrics, a few examples are:

"This Little Light of Mine"
"You Are Not Alone" (Michael Jackson)
"I'll Stand by You" (Glee)
"Don't Stop Believing" (Glee)
"Lean on Me" (Glee)

Does anybody else think this is a good idea?

I think this would be a really great idea! I always listen to music when I'm feeling down. If you need any ideas for songs, PM me!

"Love me for me, accept the fact I'm true, live like I want, fufill my dreams,
Dream of me, run out free, capture your words and never let them go."

I'll see you on the other side.

Hey Keeley. Thanks! The one thing is, this is NOT just something one can decide to do and have going next week. There are legal (licensing) things that would have to be taken care of first [real pain]. This means that the stream would most likely have to be supported from outside donations. Actually, some song ideas would be great. Nothing super loud or obnoxious, just nice and soothing, soft and gentle music!

Just think how much this could help people who are depressed/suicidal. Music is amazingly powerful!

Hi Chris!!

I hope you're having a groovy day!!

I think that's a GREAT idea!!

The 'funny' thing about music [At least music that has lyrics] is that we would often be quite offended by the 'message' [The lyrics] IF the message wasn't set to music. And that's kinda the danger of music. Sometimes we're being told 'things' and getting 'ideas' [About life - and about how we should feel about ourselves and others] that make life MORE difficult for us. And that message is flowing into our subconscious mind unfiltered and uncensored because it's being presented to us in 'song'. An example of this are songs that tell us how a guy 'should' feel about a girl. [And visa-versa] Now some people might think this is silly - but if we hear a message over and over again that tells us that we are nothing without someone else [For example] that's going to effect us in a very negative way. And that's the message you hear in a LOT of songs. Some lyrics in some songs are - I think - quite awful.

That said...

I think a lot of people would appreciate something along the lines of what you're thinking about doing. It would nice to know that every song you hear is going to lift you up [In some way] instead of knock you down. [And make you feel worse about life]

Not sure I'm making any sense.

Keep talking about this. You have a 'spark'. Hang on to it and see if it can set something on 'fire'. And be as open minded [As you can be] to where that 'spark' might lead you. Ideas often have an energy all their own and it's best if we allow that energy to lead us than it is for us to try to control it. Who knows - maybe this all end up with you doing something that has nothing to do with your original idea.

GREAT BIG HUG
Craig!!

Hey Craig. Thanks much for the reply. My idea is to focus entirely on songs with positive messages. Songs that convey things like the fact that "You are not alone". Also, I was thinking about throwing in a few things like "It's Okay to Cry" (it actually IS, right?). Also, just songs that by virtue of their lyrics and melodies can make somebody feel good (e.g. "You are my Sunshine", "Here Comes the Sun", etc.)

Sound good?

Again, this is not some miracle that is going to happen. We're looking at $500 or more per year (quite a bit more than that the first year because there would have to be money to purchase the equipment). Although I do have a computer, I would need one DEDICATED to this purpose or else the stream couldn't be running constantly.

That is an awesome idea! If you don't have the money at first, you could put a playlist on a website. That's just my idea though! lol.

I think that sounds like a good idea. If you are really into it I think you should look into it and see what you would need to do to get it started.
