No chance, but I can try. :p - July 22nd 2010, 05:12 AM

I already speak English and Spanish fluently, but I've always been interested in languages. I'm also very interested in religion, and I've been wanting to incorporate those. I've been thinking hard, and I'd like to learn both Hebrew and Arabic so I can go through the Bible and Qua'ran in their original languages, respectively. Not only do I want to study these languages so I can go through those religious texts, but I'd also like to feel comfortable with conversing in both.

In addition to learning Hebrew and Arabic, I'm also wanting to get very familiar (if not fluent) with Italian and French, as both are fairly near Spanish and would probably be useful. I also really want to be somewhat familiar with Farsi and Greek, as I think both languages are beautiful.

High goals, but I'm quite disciplined, motivated, and talented with languages, so I have high hopes. I have a ton of Jewish friends (one of which is actually lending some books on learning and practicing Hebrew) and my pastor is familiar with the Bible in Hebrew since he studied it like that, so I'm pretty set with Hebrew already.

If you were born into an English speaking country you aren't fluent in English. English is your native tongue.

Secondly there is no original version of the bible. The old testament was probably Hebrew. The New Testament was most certainly in Greek. But our bible thats been doctored a hundred times over is originally in Latin - unless of course you're Protestant at which point you would be using the King James V bible which is originally English.

Either way, you've got high ambitions and I wish you the best of luck. French would be the asiest for you to learn, or Latin - as they're both romantic languages.

Well, I'd consider 'fluent' to be any language you can speak naturally. And yes, the Old Testament was in Hebrew and the New Testament was in Greek. I suppose I should've clarified such and I would imagine the New Testament hardly exists in Hebrew anyways. Moses originally wrote parts of the Bible in Hebrew, so I'd call it the original version or tongue. Anyways, thank you all.

You sound smart. I'm jealous.

I don't think those are too high of goals for you at all.
All it takes is dedication and time (:
I actually think that's really cool !
