Do I follow my first dream or my second?

Hey Guys,
I have 2 dreams that I would wish to follow and I dont know which one I can do.
My first dream is to become a singer. I have a passion for singing and music and it is my life. I have been singing for about 4 years and granted I am not the perfect singer, but I think it is possible for me to pursue this dream.
My second dream is to be a drama teacher. I used to help run a youth theatre and I loved the buzz I got from teaching children drama and the help that I gave them.
Now I am thinking of auditioning for the x-factor because It's the only route I can see myself taking for my first dream.
I am currently in training for a drama teacher which I can still do while I do my auditions.

The only thing that is kind of keeping me back is the fact that I auditioned for Britians got talent a few months ago with my friend and we didnt get past the first audition so I feel that this will happen again.

I just cant make my mind up on what to do.
Any advice would be helpful,

First dream. Never gave up. I'm over at Warner Brothers now, at an intern level - but having executives already reading my scripts and asking if I have anything they'd be interested in. If I gave up when I was 17, I wouldn't be here today.

I say don't settle for second best. Do what you feel is right for you in your heart. A lot of people just settle and do the logical thing and end up doing something they aren't passionate for.

As Lily said do what you want to do. Your heart will tell you this. I personally believe you should keep going and never give up. Alot of people do things they'd dislike.

You could probably do both in a way?
I mean you could go and study drama and music at university or whatever so you're set for both. If one doesn't work out, do the other.
Or go into drama teaching while you're trying you get yourself 'out there' as a singer.
It is possible to do both, don't let anything hold you back!
I have a friend who's an AMAZING singer and she didn't get past her first audition for the X Factor so don't be discouraged! Good luck!!

I second this, but in another way. If you go for a career in drama teaching but also build your voice up and learn about singing theory, you could end up using your knowledge of singing in your teaching - plenty of comedies make heavy use of song!

definitely go for your dream of being a singer but don't give up on education. having qualifications to fall back on is pretty essential. then if your singing career doesn't work out you can be a drama teacher.

You can be a singer without being internationally famous. Unless that's what your plan is. Don't just try to cash in on the big titles...start small. Join all the choirs and groups and small-scale operas or whatever is necessary at first. For every performance you do there will eventually be an agent scouting or a friend of a friend, and if you do well enough, you will find your first connections. Build on these connections and work your way up. Of course try out for X-Factor and all of those nationally acclaimed shows, but if fate works out and decides to not let you to the finals then don't be discouraged. There's plenty of ways of making it to the top. I say follow your first dream, but while you are at it you can still be involved with the theater community. They are both amazing dreams and I think regardless you will find your calling.
