I've always wanted to be a screenwriter. I've had some "I like it" reactions, several "I hate it" reactions (a lot of which from your stereotypical film school student - hey, even - as I learned - Simon Kinberg went through that, he wrote Mr. & Mrs. Smith). I was also made fun of in high school for being a writer.
BUT today, the second-head exec at a company within one of the biggest film studios in the world told me he likes my script, wants to arrange a meeting, wants to read other scripts I've written and working on, and is interested about the future. I also have a meeting with a VP tomorrow. I'm 22 years old. I was laughed at for dreaming, I was told I wasn't good enough more than my fair share of times, but I kept fighting. I kept dreaming and now -- look at where I am. The reason I'm posting this is, I'm the kind of guy who even if he gets celebrity status in the years to come will be the kind of guy in Hollywood to keep people up to date on the net. This is all about you. My writing, my films are all about you - about spreading hope and this story (the one I'm living) will hopefully inspire others to continue living for their dreams. People might say you're a dreamer, people might say you're the only one, they might say you're no good - but if you keep at it. If you believe. As a teacher once told me, you can will yourself into almost anything. All you have to do is try. Hey, you got a guy working at the top levels of Hollywood here - it can happen. Two years ago, I was just a depressed no one from a small town - now? Yeah, goals/dreams - never give up, never surrender, go give them hell. Or as Christopher Reeves' slogan is GO FORWARD "Maybe I just like people. Maybe sexuality isn't one thing or the other. Maybe it's just something that's shifting and moving. I just know I'm not thinking man or woman."
- SHAMELESS. |
