Hey so I have no idea what I am doing, literally. I don't even know what I'm doing now. Apart from drinking tea and wondering what the hell I am doing, I have no idea what to do. Actually, that's a lie. I kind of know what I want to do but I don't think it would work. So I came up with this idea which most of my brain knows is utterly stupid but whatever. So. I am at home right now (1pm Monday-Schoolday) because I didn't go to school, because I hate it. Well, that's a bit harsh. It's alright. And I have a touch of a cold. But I know I am going to fail. Anyway, to the point.
I enjoy comedy, I would love to be a comedian and a script writer, write a sitcom etc. I mean, there's already a flaw in this plan in that I have no confidence for stage performances, speaking out yada yada... But that's not the main problem. I can get over that fine. Here's my issue. Women aren't funny according to a lot of people, the number of female comedians around compared to male speaks for itself kind of (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_comedians). I am a woman. So... Yeah. What I am thinking is... It sounds really stupid but. I would make a good looking man. I don't hate being a woman, I like it in a lot of ways, but being a guy just seems much more efficient for what I want to do. I am sorry if this is really offensive to people with gender disorders, I am on a caffeine high, which is how I got the confidence to actually write this, but bear with me. If I become a man I may actually have a chance in becoming a comedian. It sounds really stupid doesn't it. Yeah I won't do it, but what are your opinions on it. "No no no you weird crazy selfish freak" probably. I agree. I like being a woman, but being a man would be cool too. But this is what I want to do... Urgh, coming down from the high now, better post it quick before I change my mind. |

Is wanting to be a man have to do with wanting to be a successful comedian or are you trying to mask the real reason?
Just wondering...because why not prove everyone wrong and be a damn good female comedian????? But if you are confused with gender...that is another topic... sorry, just trying to get clarity.

There are some good female comedians
(RAH)² + (AH)³ + RO(MA + MAMA) + (GA)² + OOH + (LA)² = Bad Romance
Religion is like a penis. It's fine to have one. It's fine to be proud of it. But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around. And PLEASE don't try and shove it down my throat. |

Kathy Griffin is one of my favorite comics, and she is a woman. And I know a lot more.

I think if you want to be a female comedian...then go for it! Start by researching already successful female comedians just to see if it is something that you even want to try...no sense setting yourself up for failure if you don't take small steps to finding out if its something even attainable for you...go on Youtube and watch and learn. Model the women comics that you enjoy and then write your content and test it out on yourself in the mirror, then move on to family and friends...you will have some ideas by then if it is for you or not...
Sometimes we have a great idea and then fail before we are even out of the gate because we think about where we are now and then instantly want the lights, camera, action...and overwhelm and doubt ourselves... Chunk it down to one wee step at a time and don't worry about the how...just focus on what it is that has you so inspired to be comedian...and take that inspiration and use it as your passion (your drive) to keep moving forward with small steps to get there... Good luck...I think it is amazing that you have this inspiration...!!!!! Teen Spirit |

There are some great female comedians! I think the problem a lot of people have with them is that whereas men seem to be able to make a normal joke funny, it doesn't sound the same when a woman says it. So women resort to really racy stuff, and that doesn't appeal to everyone.
Do what you want with your life, prove people wrong
I thought about you for the rest of the day. Catching my head turning to find you again. I hated myself for it. |

I think there's been a rise in female comedians over the years. Several months ago, I didn't know of any female comedians but I've came across a couple on television. They were pretty funny. If that's the thing you want to do and you have the humor to back it up, then I say go for it. But I think that turning yourself into a guy would actually ruin your chance of becoming a successful comedian. But that's just my personal opinion. I would definitely try doing gigs at local bars or something to see if that's your sort of thing. Get a feel. Test the waters. Try before you buy. That sort of thing.

What you need is, some female comedian role models. So research them as much as possible until you find one you really like. Your idea isn't actually a bad idea, but it's only going to work if you can actually pull off sounding and acting like a guy. Most likely it would be better to be yourself, because a lot of your comedy is going to come from your own life and your take on things.

DO NOT get a sex change just for this. Totally not worth it. You can be hilarious AND be a woman, derp! :P

Oh sorry, I didn't read your post carefully enough. For some reason I thought you were just going to dress up like a guy and pretend to be one. Don't get a sex change! They are only for people who seriously feel unhappy being the gender they are. Most likely they would not allow you to have one anyway as you have to undergo some sort of hardcore psychiatric evaluation, as far as I've heard.
Just be yourself. You can 'act' a certain character on stage if you want, but don't change who you are to become a comedian. That won't work out anyway. |

I went ahead and moved this to Goals and Ambition. It seems to fit better here.
and OP, if you want to be a comedian. Go for it! You will do great! And I will take you in my arms, and hold you right where you belong. Til the day my life is through, this I promise you.121109 |

If you want to be a comedian go for it. You can be a woman comedian. You don;t need to change yourself.
