I want to be a motivational speaker? -
December 13th 2011, 05:59 AM
I am 16 years old and I want to help local people who have mental and emotional issues? I want to do it as a hobby, because I am too young to get a job of my profession. But do I need to open some sort of clinic for that, or do I do something else? I'm confused.
Thank you

I'd suggest that you:
1) Look for an internship. 2) Research Crisis Centers in your area and apply to be a volunteer phone counselor, if possible. (You do through an intensive training, but its well worth it). 3) Do some searching around and exploring your connections - find professionals in the field in your area, contact them, and see if you might be able to set up some job shadowing opportunities for yourself. Good luck! ![]() |

Personally, the most inspiring personalities are those that have realized transformation within themselves, and the most inspiring words of wisdom are those that have been realized by the individual through their own healing process. To help others with their difficulties, the most important thing you can offer them is your own solidity, happiness, and experience of how you came to embody those things. Of course, seek out those who are successful and making a career out of it already and ask for practical advice on how to get "in" the field, but please don't forget this - your own life experience, each day, is what truly counts. In that sense, everything you do can be a sort of preparation for your vocation.
Also, becoming a staff member on here is a great place to start - connecting with others, assessing your own wealth of experience and your points of strength and weakness, and building up that resume. Best of luck!
