I have no clue what to do here.. - September 16th 2009, 07:28 AM

The internet can be a great and horrible thing... out of curiousity I went onto one of those, "find sex offenders near you" website when I found something horrifying...my own step father is registered as as a sex offender as of 1997, and I never even KNEW about it.
Just about a month ago I had a few bad experiences with him, including odd back rubs from him and an uncomfortable conversation we had, which all times my mother was gone from the house..
Well after that I broke down and told my mother, and she BELIEVED me thank god. She had a talk with him and apparently it was all just some big mistake...but of course I dont believe that. I never will, and she knows that. She doesnt leave me alone with him anymore, and since then he hasnt even really looked at me or said anything, but Im really afraid after finding out he is actually a real registered sex offender.
The really bad thing is they just had their 2 year anniversy just tonight, so if I were to go and talk to my Mother about this Im not sure what she would think. But I have really no one else to talk to about this, so I thought I might post it here and see what anyone else thinks.

There's more to this, but I felt as if I had typed enough for now.

That's really sad
But that was a LONG time ago, he might have changed.
Maybe you should give him a chance?
Don't spoil their anniversary, just give him a chance.

If I were you I'd definitely tell my mother. I mean your step father should have told her something like this so if she doesn't know I really think she needs to. What if she and him decide to have children? She might feel differently about that once she knows he's on the list. Also, if you tell her then she can ask your step father why exactly he's on the list so you can both find out what reason there is behind it?

I totally understand what you are coming from. I know that its hard to forgive and forget. Like Matthew said, give him a shot, he might have changed, but whatever you do, don't go alone to see him, or be with him alone. Another thing you could try and do is contact the police and find out if he has recently been charged with anything of the sort. They may not tell you anything, as its confidential, but it is worth a shot. Or even talk to your mom too see if she knows anything.
