Should I Tell? -

When I was eight, I was molested by my 18 year old cousin. I blocked it out for a few years but started remembering when I was about 12. Now I'm fourteen.
My cousin lives in Florida with my grandma, and I live in Massachusetts. But he and my grandma are coming up to MA to live, and he'll be living a few minutes away. I'm so scared. Only my therapist knows. Should I tell my mom? Then maybe she wouldn't let him come over. Thanks |

I think it's important that you tell someone in your family, so they can know to watch out for you and protect you. It's a very horrible thing to have this happen to you, and now to have to face it again with him moving closer. But atleast if someone knows, you can be protected and maybe he won't be allowed to move, or be allowed near you.

As difficult and scary it is to tell your mom...I believe (for your own safety), it is the best thing for you to do. You should not walk this one alone because it will only create more stress and anxiety for you later on in life. Be brave. Find your strength and tell your mom...remember, she loves you and will protect you.
A similar thing happened to me (and it was also a family member) and I ended up telling my mom because I wanted it to stop and the pain to go away...well, she did put a stop to it and she got the help that I needed at the time to work my way through it...so just trust that your mom will help you through this too! Find your strength...

Yes, you need to tell. Just state the facts calmly, and let your mom know you would never lie about this kind of thing. You could also write a letter to her.
