THE STORY CONTINUES:
Vatican strikes again!
Quote:
Vatican backs abortion row bishop Cardinal Re said the attack on Brazil's Catholic Church was unjustified. A senior Vatican cleric has defended the excommunication in Brazil of the mother and doctors of a young girl who had an abortion with their help.
"Life must always be protected [apparently not the little girl's life], the attack on the Brazilian Church is unjustified." Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, himself a Catholic, said on Friday that he regretted what he described as the cleric's deeply conservative attitude. "The doctors did what had to be done: save the life of a girl of nine years old," he said.

It's not just SOMEBODY, it's the entire Brazilian Catholic Church + now they got support of the Vatican over this. It's not a one-Christian-nut-protesting-abortion type thing.

I just feel sorry for the girl, How can you expect any 9 year old girl to carry one baby let alone two, espically because her uterus is too small. And the fact that the babies were concieved through sexual abuse. This is sick.

Honestly, that is ridiculous. I myself am a Catholic and I go to Catholic school. Yet I totally agree with the girl's family and doctors. Was the Church made aware of the child's unstable health due to the pregnancies before they decided to excommunicate everybody?
I think I'm going to discuss this with my religion teacher tomorrow.

the church should make allowances this is ridiculous, she should be allowed to have the abortion you can expect a nine year to give birth, its ridiculous.

UPDATE (sort of...)
More Info:
The case has brought to light other instances of young girls being raped and impregnated by family members, especially in the poorer northeastern region.
The number of legal abortions of girls ages 10 to 14 more than doubled last year to 49, up from 22 in 2007, the Ministry of Health reported. That was out of 3,050 legal abortions performed last year in a country of more than 190 million. But the vast majority of Brazil’s abortions are not legal. The Ministry of Health estimates about one million unsafe or clandestine abortions every year.

Just a side note: the age of consent in the Vatican is 12. That's right, 12.
Searching my heart for its true sorrow,
This is the thing I find it to be:
That I am weary of words and people,
Sick of the city, wanting the sea;
Wanting the sticky, salty sweetness
Of the strong wind and shattered spray;
Wanting the loud sound and the soft sound
Of the big surf that breaks all day.

Yes, the Bible was written by man, but it was inspired by the word of God. ((it is the word of God))
I can't believe the Catholic church would do a thing like this. I don't support abortion, but this case is different. This girl was abused by her stepfather. She is nine. She was pregnant with twins. I am a twin, and my mother had enough medical problems while pregnant with my brother and me, I can't imagine the things that this girl would go through. She would most likely die. This is one of the situations that I would support abortion. This girl and the babies would die anyways... and she is definitely not emotionally ready for the trauma that would probably ensue.

Um... she was abused for many years, she could have handle 9 (or less) more months.
Anyway: So what? I'm pretty sure many other older woman are not ready for children & are "definitely not emotionally ready for the trauma that would probably ensue".

Why do you justify "killing babies" in this case?
But would you rather have an "older woman" go through something like this, or a nine-year old child?
This girl would most likely die from this pregnancy. You would lose all three of them. I wouldn't make a child go through something like that. It wasn't her fault. Honestly, I would rather that you spare the child from this whole ordeal, even though it means abortion.
