Last school year, in the spring, I was informed by a friend of mine's step brother that she was being sexually abused by his father whom she lived with. He was so afraid of his dad, he never told the police. But sadly, he told a couple of his other close friends, too, and they never reported it either. Basically, I got 3rd hand information and I knew I had to report it, so I told a teacher I trusted.
A very long amount of time later, Much to my poor, dear friend's (let's call her Sue) discontent, her disgusting stepfather was found not guilty and her enabling mother has partial custody. It will be 8 months until she's 18, but I am terrified for her and ENRAGED. Is there anything I can do anymore? I can't believe she has to be even NEAR him twice a week. I wish there was more awareness out there for child abuse and neglect. It's something nobody talks about and people are far too scared to report. Please tell me if there is anything I can do to help my friend or any other victims. This injustice needs to stop

There is a group call BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse). I know she's almost 18 but if she gets another court case these are bikers who will sit in the court room to intimidate the suspect instead of the suspect intimidating the victim. They might have that group near you.

Sadly, sometimes the justice system just fails. Is she forced to see him? Does he still abuse her? The best thing you can do is encourage her to contact her local sexual assault and abuse crisis center. They will provide her with all the help she needs, they will be her fierce advocates and make sure she is safe.
