Feeling really guilty. - May 11th 2012, 05:59 AM

Hi, I really need some advice. I bumped into a car in a parking lot the other day. There was no real damage to my car, but I left a definite dent in the car I bumped. There was no one around, and I can't afford to pay for anything extra right now, so I just drove away. I've felt unbelievably guilty about it since. I realise that it was a completely dishonest, awful thing to do, but I didn't get the license number of the car I hit. I realise it's no good to feel so bad after the fact but I don't know what to do.

Sorry if this is the wrong category but I feel like a terrible person for what I did, and I totally deserve to feel guilty, but I don't know how to handle this?

Maybe if you want to rectify the situation, you could write to your local paper and say that you hit a car at place X and time X with the make and model of the car (if you remember) or just the colour of the car and ask the person who was hit to get in contact with you?

Also, as you own a car, I assume you have insurance? If so, even if only third party, it covers damages to other vehicles most of the time, ring your insurance company to check. And then, there's always the possibility that the car you hit had good enough insurance to cover the cost of panel beaters etc.

But a dent? Well, I dented a taxi last year. And the taxi was fine to continue driving. I think if you come clean about it, hopefully the person will be nice to you and be understanding of your situation, and then at least you don't have to walk around with the guilt weighing you down.

I agree with Jess.

And even if you don't post anything on the paper or wherever or if u can't find the other driver, u can't change the past, so, move on. The car insurances cover that kind of stuff, don't worry too much!
