cant stand being alone - May 19th 2012, 11:45 PM

feel free to move this because i have no clue where to put it.
and i should say this isnt really that bad of thing just weird

anyway i have no fucking clue why ive been feeling this way but lately i have had issues with being alone. which is really weird for me because im generally a loner but idk what the fuck came over me. like i cant focus on anything aswell as i could unless im with someone and i cant just be alone and what not. like i said i know this isnt something that extreme i just dont know if this is normal or what. any advice how to get back to how i was ?

Humans are social creatures so it is normal to seek out others to be with. You obviously like being around others, so when you try be alone, it's similar to substance withdrawal, you want the companionship which you just had and just let go. As you said, being around others helps you focus and perform better, so you'd just be shooting yourself in the foot by trying to be alone. Instead of trying to revert back to how you previously were, why not embrace the newly found desire to be with others?

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

I agree with Nick. We are constantly changing, and it seems like you no longer have the desire to be a "loner" in the absolute sense of the word. I know that I used to LOVE being alone in my room - I would do so as often as I could. At some point during my college years, though, that changed. I started to feel antsy/tense when people went out on a Friday or Saturday night, and I was still in my room doing my own thing. At first, I thought it was just a temporary feeling, but as the months passed, I realized that something had changed. Being a "loner" no longer suited my needs. I still enjoy being alone, but I also enjoy the ability to choose whether or not I'm alone. For example, I still live by myself, because when I come home, I want to be able to unwind and not have to deal with a roommate. There are times when that's not enough for me, though, and I'm happy that I can call people and hang out with them. I didn't try to force myself back into the "loner" lifestyle, because it would have just made things worse. Instead, I embraced the idea that my social needs had changed.
