Changing meds need adivce!! - June 11th 2012, 12:57 AM

I have been taking Seroquel xr, for almost 8 months, it's been the first medication where I actually feel human. I have been able to stop my cutting addiction while on it, and have stopped feeling suicidal.

My family lost healthy family coverage, and now on my dads insurance it costs $300 for a months prescription. We can't afford it. I did some research, and similar drugs (atypical antipsychotics) covered are Risperidone, Olanzapine, and Ziprasidone. If anyone has used any of these I would greatly appreciate feedback.

I have been on fluoxetine (prozac), and klonopin, but they didn't work, so I'm trying to stay away from those types of drugs.

Im on seroquel tooo I think its the best med in the world too. I would try to stay on seroquel because I know its a GREAT MED and you seem to think the same.

You could try going on the generic brand of seroquoel that way its cheaper. why dont you try that.

I've been on zyprexa (olanzapine) and it did not work for me. It made me a zombie. I gained 25 pounds and slept 18 hours a day. I hated it.
Every medication is different, but that's my feedback.

Hey, I've been on olanzapine.

Whilst I was *just* on olanzapine I experienced a severe drop in my mood, but combined medication with citalopram (and eventually lithium) worked well. I slept through nights etc etc, only problem was I gained about 20kg (44lbs), which was why I stopped taking it.

Also, as Lauri suggested, are you able to get the generic brand? It's called quetiapine, and is exactly the same.

I totally missed quetiapine, when I was researching. Most likely because one website said there wasn't generics, stupid internet!!!!! Thank you guys so so much!!! I checked online and insurance covers it! Only $15 a month, which I could afford!!!.

Good to know Sarah, glad we could help

Also - there is a wikipedia article on quetiapine if you're interested in knowing more about it.
