Exclamation Do I have DID?! - June 29th 2012, 03:15 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

So I was reading up on DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) because I'm interested in stuff like that. I noticed I had all but 1 of the symptoms. Plus I think I have 3 or 4 personalities: Happy and joyful and loving everyone and everything, then there's sad and depressed and emo, the 'I don't care' personality where I go around not caring about anything or anyone and I don't care WHO I hurt (that's a new one) and what I like to call 'The Rage'. I just BURN with RAGE and ANGER and HATE! and that's where I run around punching walls and screaming at people and hurting people and where I get aggrovated just by a simple word I don't like... I'm scared of that personality I told all my friends if I ever have an extremely angry look on my face and my hands are in fists then they should RUN for their own safety. Could I have DID (which by the way is also known as split personality syndrome)?

Help I'm really worried .

Hey there,

I doubt you have DID, unless you've been through some kind of trauma. Plus, you are 12, your hormones will be going through the roof and causing moodswings, which is probably what you're experiencing right now. I used to be similar to you, changing moods every 5 minutes. That's just a natural part of growing up.

We can't diagnose you with any type of disorder, but DID is extremely rare, so you probably don't have it. The "personalities" you describe are different moods and are perfectly normal for a 12 year old, as said above, your hormones are a little crazy right now this should eventually pass.

I have to agree with everyone else. It most likely your hormones that is causing it.

Re: Do I have DID?! - June 30th 2012, 11:29 PM

I highly doubt you have DID. Other than the reasons listed above, despite the name, "personalities" or "alters", they aren't simply emotional responses or attitudes. Rather, they introduce themselves to the person with their own name, have their own age, view of the world, gender, etc... . If you have to give these feelings a name, then they're not DID personalities, they're simply an emotional feeling you've given a unique name.

Even though you're young, you shouldn't run around punching and screaming at people. You'll find that your friends will begin to avoid you even when you're not in such a mood. I can say personally, I wouldn't want to be friends with someone who would run around screaming, hitting and turns violent instantly. Your friends are walking on egg-shells, even if they know you don't have DID, they still have to deal with you. Additionally, if you scream and hit someone you don't know, they may hit back.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
