Question how many mental illnesses do i need? - July 28th 2012, 05:01 PM

So updating from the year I haven't been on here...
I got diagnosed with depression, given lots of different meds. I took them for about 6 months then decided to come off them. Doctors told me no, but I came off them anyway, besides, once I turned 19, I had to pay for them! I felt 100% better when I came off those dreaded meds... But only for a while! I soon got diagnosed with OCD and anxiety which got me scared again. Not that they did anything about it! I also got referred to a domestic abuse counsellor which I didn't need. Did 12 sessions with her then left. I soon came to accept all my problems and felt happy for a long time, but now my OCD is worse than ever and anxiety is taking over! I've been cut off from my counsellor and everyone thinks I'm fine... When really I'm not! I feel like I'm depressed again.... What do I do?

Hi there.

You haven't made it completely clear but Im going to take, that from what you have said, you currently have no input from a mental health professional. Clearly you want the help and so I think it would be a good idea for you to see your GP. To explain the situation and how you're feeling and talk to them about being referred to a mental health team and possibly medication. They'll be able to help you get the support you need.

I've been through all that in the past! Don't want to go there again! Oh and I forgot to mention my newly developed eating disorder -.-

Sophie, I think this is a situation where the difference between what you want and need becomes important. I know you may not want to go through everything again, but it may be the only way for you to get the help you clearly want and need. Try it again and tell them everything that is going on as well as what worked or didn't work so they don't put you through the non-solutions again.
