Having conversations in your head? - September 10th 2012, 02:52 PM

sometimes like ill play out a conversation in my head.. like say in sports..if a player loses a game ill play out what he would say after the game..or a movie..ill play out what the character would say in a certain situation..is that bad?

like heres an example

"i wonder what the weather will be like tomorrow"
"oh wow 78 its gonna be nice out"

i dont say it out loud, its all in my head...is that normal?

I do that at times. I don't think it's abnormal in the sense of having a mental illness or anything if that's what you were wondering. I don't have very much privacy at home so I find myself mulling over all kinds of things in my head like that.

Often when I'm sleepy, I'll do something similar. I'll either make up a story in my head to amuse myself, or if I'm worried about stuff, I'll play out that situation in my head and the different ways it can turn out. Honestly, I wouldn't be too worried, unless you find yourself too caught up in your own head and struggling to concentrate on the things happening around you.

Take as long as you need.

I'm actually fairly certain stuff like that is fairly normal.
A lot of people actually find solutions to problems or become better speakers by practicing in their minds or participating in a dialogue with themselves. Sometimes saying things out loud (even if that's sometimes only in our own minds) just makes thoughts easier to organize.

In short, I believe that you're 100% normal and that there is nothing wrong with what you've described.

Hi there.

I honestly think this is completely normal. I am always doing this through out the day and I don't think this is anything to have any concerns or worries about

I do this too, I plan out situations in my head and what I would do in them or I go over situations in my head, or have mini conversations in my head. I don't know if it's normal or not but I do this too.

I do this a lot too! I'll have complete conversations between people (sometimes including myself, sometimes not) about different situations. I think it's normal-at least by what I consider to be "normal".

I do it a lot. I don't interact to people much so maybe that's why.

Re: Having conversations in your head? - September 13th 2012, 04:32 AM

I do this all the time, and I'd say it's completely normal. =) For me, having conversations in my head allows me to problem-solve by playing out various scenarios ("What might my client say to me? 'Blah blah blah.' Oh, okay, this is how I could reply. 'Blah blah blah!'"). It also allows me to go over my mental "to-do" list and see if there will be any issues ("I have to finish this worksheet by Monday. Oh, darn, I wanted to visit my boyfriend that weekend! Well, I'll have to make sure this worksheet is done by Thursday, so I don't have to worry about it over the weekend"). Having conversations in your head is completely different from having auditory hallucinations (ex. strange voices that constantly comment on what you're doing and tell you to hurt yourself and/or other people).

I'd say this is normal. I know I am being repetative here but I do this too. You have nothing to worry about here.

I talk to myself. I often can't help it if comes to my mind.
I'd answer my thought in my head and then be like 'wow, I have to stop talking to myself'.
Although, that may be a form of insanity, but conversations in your mind is normal..
