Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder - September 12th 2012, 09:32 PM

My psych wants to give ma diagnoses and has asked me to look into Emotionally unstable personality disorder to tell him if I feel if I struggle with the symptoms of it as he feels that might be the correct diagnoses to give. I'm just wondering whether Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder is the same as Borderline Personality Disorder because that's what the internet is saying but I'm unsure?

Yeah, as far as I've found they're the same diagnosis, just they're from different diagnostic manuals. I believe they have very very slight differences, but the main symptoms are the same.
hope this helps

As Ella said, they're pretty much the same thing. Borderline Personality Disorder is the diagnosis in the DSM which is used in the states and some other places (like Canada). The ICD lists Borderline as Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder. The ICD is used in pretty well everywhere else and is released by the WHO.
The DSM is set to change the name of Borderline Personality Disorder as the disorder is now thought to have nothing to do with being borderline of anything, so the name makes no sense. So they might just end up calling it the same thing in the USA soon.
