Question What's wrong with me, to be honest. - January 29th 2013, 09:35 PM

I just don't get it anymore. Nothing seems to entertain me anymore. I just feel completely empty and just simply bored. But then there's other times where I get angry and nearly murderous out of no where. I end up punching walls and swinging at people. And my girlfriend could even agree with this, but I'm always constantly telling her that she'd be better off with someone else and saying that I hate her, but then seconds or minutes later I'm crying and screaming for her to never ever leave me. Like I cannot stand being alone. Also some just additional things, I have self harmed and attempted suicide and I've been sent to our mental health facility twice. And I have no idea where I'm going with this. Any thoughts?

Only a trained professional can actually diagnosis you with anything but it sounds like you're experiencing from bi-polar. I don't know if you've ever been tested for it or not but if not I would certainly talk to a doctor/therapist etc about what's going on and they can help.

I'm pretty sure bipolar is depression and mania, and indeed I have been diagnosed with depression, but not mania/bi-polar. I could mention it to my therapist on Friday, but that's as far as I can go with this.

Have you talked to you therapist about all of these things? If you mention all the feelings and thoughts it would be easier for him ot her to understand. When you say it is as far as you can go, does that mean you are not willing or capable of going on further with being diagnosed by a psychiatrist? I know my therapist was unable to actual diagnose me with anything medical(if that makes sense). I would recommend talking with him or her at your next appointment though.

I don't think it sounds like bipolar, if anything I think it sounds like depression or moodyness. Nobody on here can diagnose you, all we can do is give you suggestions and help you figure out what you should do. If this is bothering you you should make an appointment with your doctor, therapist, or counselor and talk to them about it. If you think you'll forget to mention something or get nervous then write it down on a piece of paper and bring that with you.
I really don't think it sounds like bipolar though. If you have depression (you said you had talked to someone about that before) that would actually cover everything you mentioned in your post.

When I said " that's as far as I can go with this" I meant as far as talking to someone about this
And no I haven't talked to my therapist about this because I haven't seen her for about 3 weeks.

I agree with Rick, Depression can even cover fits of rage. This is one of those crucial details people forget (especially with the stereotype of Bipolar as going from sad to angry, when it's much more complicated). Have you tried any anti-depressants? Obviously your emotions are interfering with your life, so looking into medication may be the best option to get some control of your condition,

I am currently on anti-anxiety and anti-psychotics for stabilizing my mood. They took me off the anti-depressants because they were causing me to be more suicidal.

It doesn't seem like the anti-psychotics are helping any. How many different antidepressants did they try? Some work, some cause negative effects. My one friend with Depression had felt suicidal with one antidepressant, but had better results from another. Obviously something isn't working, because medication is supposed to be helping your symptoms.

Are you attending therapy sessions? Keep in mind the key to treating any mental illness is typically a combination of medication AND therapy. So even when you find medication that works, there are some things that still need to be dealt with professionally, which is where a therapist is *usually* sufficient.

I've been on Celexa and Lexapro before and I reacted negatively to both of them. And yes, I am in therapy. It will be 2 years come August.

Re: What's wrong with me, to be honest. - February 4th 2013, 05:25 PM

Have you explained that the antipsychotic isn't working, since you seem to still be having lows? Antipsychotics are meant to control things like Hallucinations, Delusions, and HIGHS as well as LOWS, but if you're not having the Highs, that could easily explain why your medication isn't treating the lows.

I'm not a doctor, but I think that other antidepressants should be tried (like Wellbutrin, since it's not of the same class of antidepressants as Celexa and Lexapro..?), so perhaps mentioning to your doctor that you are not experiencing symptom relief, but rather more lows, from your current medication.

I'll try to explain that to her at my next appointment.

It's not bipolar. Mood changes aren't that quick with that illness. Let's not attempt to 'label' you with an illness just yet!
You're 14, tough age for being with a girlfriend. First love? There are all kinds of emotions running wild and hormones and mood swings.

What do you think is making you feel this way? I know, MUCH easier said than done.

Get lots of exersice and do things that EXPRESS yourself, (opposite of DEPRESSion). Get all of that anger, frustration and negative energy out

Haha, I'd say.
And I'm not for sure, I talked to my therapist about it, trying to sort out everything that has occurred in the past weeks, but we haven't come up with anything.
