Anyone else get this? - April 8th 2013, 07:00 PM

So for the last few weeks I've had this constant droning buzzing in my head. It's not a noise or something I can hear, but it's just there. I don't know how else to describe it. It's a mixture of racing thoughts and just white noise and it is making me do really strange things. I'm not who I used to be. I've had periods like this over the last few years, but this is different. I keep overdosing and I don't know why. I'm having strange paranoid thoughts when I leave my flat. Last night I cut a lot of my hair off because I felt like the mirror was mocking me. When I was in hospital, I removed my drip because I kept having thoughts that it was poison.
I'm not hallucinating, I don't think I'm delusional, but something is very very wrong. I feel like something inside my head has broken.
Does anyone else feel like this?
I almost got sectioned last time I overdosed, but they let me go because I had capacity. I kind of wish they had kept me in, I don't feel safe.

I haven't experienced this, but I can see that you are really struggling with everyday stuff. You even stated that, on some level, you wish you had been sectioned. You seem aware that you're not safe on your own and need to be monitored until all of this can be assessed more carefully. I know you're currently trying to get a "fit note" so you can work again, but honestly, it may not be a bad idea to take some time off and seek additional support from your current team of mental health professionals.

Thankyou for the reply. After thinking it through, I really do think I should take more time off, especially since I seem to be getting more self destructive. Besides the overdoses, I now have several full thickness burns on my arm and have to go to a specialist unit today to get them treated. I see a psychiatrist tomorrow so I will mention this and see what they think.

Maybe its as simple as you've got an inner ear infection. That could cause what your hearing.I do however think a psychiatrist is a good idea.Word to the wise, make sure he doesn't put you on too many meds,if you feel like a zombie than get a second opinion.

My psychiatrist basically didn't take me seriously. He told me to cut back on drinking because he reckons that's the cause of all my problems.

How many drinks do you have per day/week? Alcohol can have an effect on people, especially when combined with other medications. Still, the psychiatrist really should have explored other potential causes. Is it possible to get a second opinion?

I generally drink around 30-40 units per week and around 5 days per week. I've decided to take a week off drinking to see if it makes a difference. Every time I see that psychiatrist, all he does is tell me that alcohol is causing everything and offered to prescribe me meds for withdrawal symptoms that I don't get because I'm not physically dependent on alcohol. I'm kind of scared to disagree and make a fuss because I feel like I'll just be living up to the BPD label that they've given me. Since I've had the diagnosis, I really feel like I've been treated differently.

Borderline PD is such an obnoxious diagnosis...feel free to disagree with them as long as you do it rationally, lol. 30-40 drinks per week is a lot. That's what I used to drink when I was a freshman and it really messed me up for several years. I doubt if taking a week off will help that much, but cutting back to say, 10 drinks per week could be beneficial. Good luck Ella

It's not actually 30-40 drinks lol, it's about 15-20 cans of budweiser. it's day 3 and I'm hating being sober, not craving alcohol as such, just want the nice anxiolytic effects. No changes in mood yet, although I've all but stopped sleeping which is a pain.
