quick question about psych hospitals? -
May 3rd 2009, 04:43 AM
Can anyone give me a ballpark amount as to how much they cost?
Recently I've been relapsing pretty bad; started self-harming, having suicidal ideation, panic attacks and paranoia all over again, and the bottom line is that I don't trust myself at this point and I feel like I need to back because it's the only place where I ever seem to feel safe.
I've been in a psych hospital several times, the most recent being about last year. my parents never let me know how much they have to pay for my treatment because they know that it'll upset me and make me feel guilty, so I don't know how much they have to pay. I really don't want to let them or my therapist & psychiatrist to know in case they're too expensive and my parents can't afford it... we're kind of in a money crunch and letting anybody know would probably get me sent there right away.

Hey there,
I know you said that you're family is tight on money. However, if you are a danger to yourself, it is extremely important that you get the help that you need and deserve. Perhaps you could just let your parents know how you're feeling, without mentioning hospitalization. I'm sure they will do everything in their power to help you, and if that requires taking you to a psychiatric facility, then they will do it.
Your life is priceless; that is why your parents were willing to pay for help in the past.
Take care; I hope you can find the strength to speak with someone about how you are feeling, and can get back on the road to recovery. Good luck.

in a long time,
I can say that I wanna try.
I feel helpless for the most part,
but I'm learning to open my eyes.
And the sad truth of the matter is,
I'll never get over it,
but I'm gonna try
to get better and overcome each moment
in my own way"

Precisely. no matter how much it costs, it could never be even a fraction of what it would cost them emotionally if you were to not go and end up proving that you should have gone.
hang in there hun. I think you should go.
My cousin committed suicide more than a decade ago, my family still feels that pain like we did the day of her funeral. I can promise you that we would give anything and everything to have her back. Her loss ripped the heart out of my family.
Please, don't risk it. go to the hospital.
pm me any time ok? I'm always here for you...
PM me any time, ok? I'm always here to help.
What's the second amendment for? Just in case the government takes away the first.

Hey there,
I was just going to suggest about insurance. Here in England I have friends that get treat on the NHS (For free), i'm not sure if there is anything similar to that in the US. There is a private hospital my friend is in called the capio, and that is funded by medical insurance. You should check over that to see if they will pay some money.
Your life is truly priceless, and if this stint in a psych hospital will make your life better in the long term then it is worth it!
