Hallucinations? - May 2nd 2014, 10:00 PM

So, the only time I've ever hallucinated was when I first got on psych meds, years ago and only at night. I haven't changed any medication routine in months but today I think I've been hallucinating. I keep seeing some shadowy thing not in my direct line of vision but more visible than the corner of my eye or peripheral vision. Sometimes it zooms by, sometimes it moves slow and every time I see it my heart races. I also feel weird and random sensation on my body, some feel like crawling, others biting, tickling, or a weird one I can't really explain. idk what to do. I already feel myself disconnecting from reality, like none of this is real. idk I've never gone through this.

Hi Sunflower,

There is a possibility that these visual hallucinations may be a optical phenomena to do with your eyes especially as you said how they 'fly' past.
Do you wear glasses? I've experienced similar visuals before i had glasses when i was straining my eyes and now when i suffer from migraines. An eye test wouldn't go amiss.

Next is to rule out your medication so you're on anti-psychotic medication? Definitely have a conversation with your GP, these could be negative side-effects or signs that the medication is interacting or conflicting with something. How long have you been on it?

The sensory/tactile hallucinations can be caused by a period of heightened anxiety, i have experienced similar during panic attacks. But again worth talking to your GP/Psychologist whoever else is part of your support network.

Lastly i know these experiences can be really scary, but you're aware they shouldn't be there which is great.

Hope this helps

I don't wear glasses and I'm not antipsychotics anymore I was taken off of them around the time that I started my current medications... So like 5 months ago.

I guess my mind is just playing tricks on me

Thank you!

I went through the same exact thing you're going through now. I was put on medication for it and I haven't seen the images since.

I did get a weird feeling every time I saw the shadow, like a creepy sensation.

You aren't the only one going through this I hope life gets better for you sweetie.
