different personalities while remembering? - April 6th 2017, 04:44 AM

So I have a question...Can you have different personalities without blacking out?

I have always felt out of body at times and don't connect with reality but I can remember everything. Lately I have been feeling like a three year old doing things like a three year old...But I can still spell and everything. But I talk in baby talk, I will put a pacifier in. Yesterday I was in this state for about 4 hours. I couldn't stop no matter how hard I wanted too. Right now I feel like the three year old again. Could this be a forum of D.I.D? or is it just my BPD? If anyone knows anything about this I would really like to know... I am so confused. I am becoming more and more like a little three year old a lot more often.

I'm confused.

I'm basing this on my personal experiences, but in short, I believe that you can definitely feel and act more childlike without blacking out.

For me, I have realised that I can have two types of dissociation. I can dissociate before and after a panic attack and the world feels unreal, and I feel unreal. But the second one is that if I get triggered, all the emotions and feelings from the past come out. It's difficult to deal with, and I've noticed that it affects my behaviour such as higher pitched voice like a child, and speaking in simple sentences. All I want to do in that moment is to be cuddled like I were a child, even though I'm a fully grown 24 year old! I know this because I remember it too, I am aware of what's happening but feel like I can't really control it.

It really is difficult to say. It could be a symptom of DID, but I think you would have other alters or not be able to remember much (although not too sure on that). It could definitely be a part of BPD too or even C-PTSD if you had trauma in your childhood. Can you think of anything that might be causing you to regress at the moment? Anything stressful going on or uncertainty in your life? Or on the opposite side of things, are you making progress in you life or with therapy? Changes, whether positive or negative, can bring up many feelings and it's understandable to sometimes regress. It can also mean that you are missing something in your life like safety and so the pacifier and regression symbolises that and can make you feel safe.

Since it seems to be confusing you, I'm wondering if you can let your therapist know? It's something worth talking about in therapy, that's for sure.

There's a book titled The 5 Personality Patterns by Steven Kessler, which might better be titled, The 5 Survival Patterns. The first survival pattern is called The Leaving Pattern, where the person desires to leave their body, because it's not safe here. I don't know if you would relate to that description.

The other thing I recall is a hospital documentary where an adult would suddenly revert to being a child, for no apparent reason. Doctor did a brain scan and spotted a tiny tumor in the brain that was causing it. Surgeon removed tiny tumor and patient was fine afterwards.

Of course it's not easy convincing insurance company to pay for a brain scan. If it shows something then that's proof you needed it. If it doesn't show anything then faulty logic says that's proof you didn't need one.

I do not have a brain tumor. I have been reverting back to baby talk since I was like 8. It is definitely because of trauma, we have already been told that.
