Mixed manic episodes? - August 7th 2018, 11:52 PM

Am I posting in the right place???

Anyway, for about a month now I have been doing these things:

Sleeping more, talking less, eating less, self harming more, feeling more guilty and just feeling empty and depressed.
But at the same time I am sleeping less, talking more, eating more, feeling bad for self harming, feeling care free, spending money and such more, more excitable and talking more.
And I can morph between the two in a matter of minutes, pretty much. I don't have a diagnoses, but if I don't feel like this, I am either really depressed or really happy. Any ideas? Thanks.

Since we are not mental health professionals, we cannot give you a diagnosis. If you are concerned about any of these things that are happening to you, then I suggest reaching out to a licensed professional and they can give you the support and treatment that you need to manage these symptoms.

You are posting in the right place, don't worry

As it's been said above, we can't diagnose you as we aren't professionals. Whether or not you are having manic episodes, it seems like what you are experiencing is affecting your life. From what you have written, it seems like your emotions tend to be ruling your life rather than the other way around.

It can be hard to get to sleep when we have more energy, are worried about things or just can't get to sleep. But we still need to try to get around 8 hours sleep every night. Be sure to spend some time winding down before bed, perhaps have a relaxing bath, have a warm drink, write down any worries and avoid screens and social media. Try to have a regular bed time and set an alarm for the morning to avoid over-sleeping.

Appetites can change when we feel depressed, but try to eat a healthy diet and roughly 3 meals a day. If that's hard, you can always split the meals up into smaller portions and eat say 6 small meals throughout the day. It's also okay if you only feel like eating certain foods, but try to eat a variety of things. With time, your appetite will return.

When our moods are all over the place, we may feel like self-harming to cope with things. But self-harming can lead to all sorts of issues in both short and long term. Perhaps instead of self-harming, you might want to check out our alternatives page for ideas on what you can do instead of self-harming when the urge hits. You can also try the 15 minute rule and wait/distract yourself for 15 minutes and see how you feel. If you still feel the same, try to wait another 15 minutes. You'll realise that the urge does fade and you don't have to self-harm to cope with difficult feelings.

It sounds like you've been feeling this way for a while and I'm wondering if yo have talked to anyone about how you have been feeling? If not, try talking to someone that you trust such as a family member, friend, or even a teacher or school counsellor. It's also worth contacting your doctor who can refer you to appropriate mental health support. You deserve it!
