Crying but don't feel anything? - April 29th 2019, 11:54 AM

So I've had a lot of things happen over the past few months. Abusive relationship and friendships, yada yada yada. I don't feel anything. When I talk about it, I don't feel anything but tears are streaming down my face. But no emotion whatsoever. Why is this?

Sorry to hear that you've been through a lot over the last few months, including abusive relationships and friendships.

We can't really say for sure why you are crying but not feeling anything emotionally as we aren't professionals. But sometimes when we are overwhelmed and have gone through traumatic experiences, we may feel 'numb' or just not really register any emotions as we talk about it. You may feel disconnected with your emotions and this can be common in those who have experienced abuse. It's your brains way of switching off and avoiding dealing with the emotions and while this can help when you are experiencing trauma, it can be unhelpful afterwards.

Alternatively, you may also be struggling to recognise your emotions or what you are feeling and this can be common in many mental illnesses such as depression.

I'm wondering if you have talked to a professional such as a counsellor about the abuse you have experienced and how you cry but don't feel anything emotionally? They might be able to help you process what you went through and help you find ways of getting back in touch with your emotions.

Hey there, I am sure you know we can't give a medical diagnosis. There could be a number of reasons why you keep crying. Have you been able to process everything you've been through? Do you have a support system in place, such as a trusted adult or friend? Recovering from the things you've been through can be tough without having anyone to talk to.

Also, as the poster above me said, therapy might not be a bad idea for you. Plus, if there is something more profound, like clinically, then they can provide the right course of treatment for you.

Best of luck.
