Anthropophobia... - September 6th 2009, 04:52 PM

Over the past few months I have become increasingly scared of people. For the past couple of weeks it has been so bad that I have been refusing to go out to the park or even the corner shop. At first I thought I might have some form of agoraphobia because I was too afraid to go outside. Then I realized that I was happiest when I was outside, but only when I go for long walks in the countryside when there are barely any people to interact with. At the moment I am too afraid to talk-even to my closest friends. I am going back to school the day after tomorrow and I don't know how I going to get over my fear.

Hey.

Well, as hard as it might be to think we need to face facts here and realise you are going to be going into school soon and interacting with people so we need to try and think of ways that are going to help you deal with this and make it as easy and stress free as we can.

What I mean is, you canít not go to school, so maybe together we can think of little things that are personal to you that are going to help make the transition of going back to school and starting to socialise again easier.

Would it be easier for you to maybe see your best friend again before you go back? Then maybe you can think of a place that you would feel most safe and meet her there and then you could confide in her about your worries and she then would be able to support you throughout this. The more people you have around you who know whatís going on for you the better, because, well that means thereís more people to support you, right? And thatís always a good thing You could meet at your house, maybe take a walk together, you know, one of those walks you have found you really like? What do you think?

Can you think of some little things that can help you throughout your days at school? Maybe something as simple as speaking to your teacher and explaining the situation briefly so that you can ensure youíre sat by your friend in your lessons, something like that?

I know this may seem really scary for you, and it may feel so overwhelming but honestly itís defiantly better to try and deal with this and sort it out before it gets even worse and you find yourself not being able to see anyone or leave the house at all. That would be awful.

I really hope things start looking up for you and that you can think of some ways to make this easier for you. If you ever need anything please donít hesitate to get in touch. All the best, take care.
