I hate my birthday! - October 22nd 2009, 03:39 AM

Just for starters:
1. I have extremely low self-esteem: I think im extremely ugly, and that no one likes me.
2. I have thought about suicide, but nothing too serious
3. I hate myself.

My birthday was a few days ago. I absolutely hate my birthday. I don't know why.

I hate celebrating it, I hate thinking of it.

I'm not really bothered that I'm turning a year older.

Is it something psychologically wrong with me? I am extremely irritated on the day of my birthday and get *Extremely* pissed at anyone who says "Happy Birthday!" or tries to give me some present, etc.

Why does this happen year after year?

I doubt there is a psychological (or physical regarding the forum catergory) regarding your dislike of birthday. Judging by your descriptions of your self esteem, I would guess that it is in your head, related to your view of yourself. Perhaps just the fact that on your birthday, all eyes are on your and everyone is looking towards you-- since you have low self confidence, subconciously this could be bothering you.

My cure would be to just use your birthday as one more step towards what you want to do. Think of how that day is another day of you growing out of your low self esteem, a step closer to meeting more people, getting further in life. Growing older is a great thing!

Hey, I don't like my birthday either. It celebrates one year closer to death and celebrating shallow attachments to the physical.

At a cursory glance it seems that you view your birthday as an extension of your self.. however I am not a psychologist, or anyone specially trained in the concepts of the human mind. :S
