Hey there,

Anti-depressants are different for everyone. What works for someone else may not work for you. However, your doctor would not prescribe this medication if they did not fully believe that it will help you. Many people take these sort of medications; if they didn't work, why would so many people take them? Just realize that you may have to switch a couple of times before you can find the medication that's right for you. I went through five anti-depressants before one finally started working for me.

Take care, and good luck!

in a long time,
I can say that I wanna try.
I feel helpless for the most part,
but I'm learning to open my eyes.
And the sad truth of the matter is,
I'll never get over it,
but I'm gonna try
to get better and overcome each moment
in my own way"

They will work for most people, although they sometimes take some switching to find the right one to fit each individual. Remember, though, that antidepressants aren't really intended to be a permanent solution, they are better used as a jump start, which is why I recommend them in conjunction with therapy.

Different anti-depressants work for different people. It all depends on the type of mental disorder that they are being used for, the personality of the user etc. But the do help most of the time.

The most effective form of treatment for many disorders including anxiety is CBT and Anti Depressants together. You might want to ask your doctor about that when he puts you on them later this month

Good luck!

Anti depressants have worked wonders for me. However the first one I was on had absolutely no effect what so ever. After I had been on them for 2 months or so I was changed onto these ones, which have just changed my life so much. I would always advise people who have been offered them to try them.

Hi Tab,

Unfortunately we can't tell you if anti-depressants will or will not definitely work for you, but they do have a very good success rate, especially if they're used in conjunction with a talking therapy. Anti-depressants are not a long-term solution to any emotional issues you may be suffering with and so I'd highly recommend that you do attend some sort of therapy alongside your medication which should help you more in the long-term. However, anti-depressants are good for balancing out chemicals in your body and therefore can help you feel slightly better. There are of course issues with finding the right type and dosage of anti-depressant which may take some time. As others have said, there are also other risks (like any other medication) that you may want to talk about with your doctor.
I would strongly suggest that you talk it through with your psychiatrist before you begin medication and ask them any questions that you may have.

Take care.
