Male body image - October 24th 2009, 07:38 AM

So, I often find that I'm overly stressed about appearance. It's not that I try to look like a pretty boy or anything, but often times I'll worry about my body or hair in comparison to others. I realize this now after spending a few hours working out because I didn't think I looked big enough. What I found odd though when looking at articles about poor male body image is that it was almost always attributed to jocks. I'm not in any sports. I listen to indie music and take enriched english. It made me wonder though, how many guys actually worry about stuff like that? Is the amount of stress I put on myself normal? And it isn't even like I'm trying to impress a girl. My girlfriend lives 2 or 3 hours away. It does seem like it that men are given these impossible goals in the same way as women. While a girl might be off worrying about shedding those "last few pounds" that only she can see, a guy might be trying to gain muscle when people already think he spends too much time at the gym. I never thought the whole idea of the media showing the ideal female form was that big of a deal, and I now apologize to anybody who deals with that, because it now hits home that it's poisoning our minds.

Your head will collapse, but there's nothing in it and you'll ask yourself, "Where is my mind?"

Male body image is just as big an issue as female. It's fairly common for men to think about "getting bigger" and obsessing over lifting and exercising. There is quite a bit of pressure. We're always hearing about a six-pack is, or how toned so and so is. I know it hit me hard for a while. I've been dealing with that hit for 2 years...

"Why isn't bull-riding (Beef NASCAR as I call it) the American sport to end all sports? It's an epic battle of the wills between a man and an angry cheeseburger; and if that doesn't typify our awesome civilization, I don't know what does."

Re: Male body image - October 24th 2009, 09:10 PM

Well, I do work out, but for myself, so I'm fit and healthy, and I wouldn't like to see myself personally out of shape. I know people who don't do much though and I don't think its an issue...

So yeah I do worry, I've lazed around the house a lot lately, and as a result put a little bit more work in

I definitely think there are some people who have to deal with this as an issue though, and its quite serious, but for me of course I'll put on smellies, dress smart etc, but my girlfriend should love me for who I am And I believe she does. If she was going out with me for my body, I'd be a bit disappointed to be honest lol...

How can one love themselves, when they love absolutely nothing?
Do something that is interesting. If it is not interesting, find out why it is not interesting.
