I don't get it =( - October 28th 2009, 08:12 PM

I get really bad moodswings. One minute I'll be fine, the next I'll be really depressed, or really aangry. Most of the time I internalise it, end self harm, but ocasionally I lash out. Like today. I slapped my little brother, for no real reason. I hate that I do stuff like that, 'cos he's the only one I do that to. I don't want to hurt anyone, but i always end up hurting, either him or myself. I don't know what to do what to do about it =(

Hey there Jessy,

I think it's great that you've managed to recognise that you're having some issues with your emotional wellbeing now as it means that you're able to modify it and make changes to potentially improve how you're feeling.
You say that you don't know what to do about it but do rest assured that there are plenty of things that you can do to try and change this and help yourself. I think that the ideal starting point would be to reach out to someone, if you haven't already. That person could be a parent, guardian, teacher or school counsellor. I think that talking to a counsellor could be very beneficial to you as it could really help you to figure out why you behave the way you do and how you can resolve it. Otherwise, talking to a doctor who could refer you to a professional service (i.e. CAMHS) would also be a good idea.

Hey, I think first of you need to start writing down in a book or in a diary when you have mood swings.. sometimes it's little things that can affect people.
Also it's great you've acknowledged a problem, you should talk to a parent, school counsellor or even G.P that way they can help you fully!
If you can't talk to anyone try figuring out why and when you get mood swings and try your hardest to prevent them.

from reading what you put i'd suggest taking out your swings in a different way. writing it down, as was suggested before , singing, going for a walk, or attacking something inanimate, like a pillow or teddy bear.
and from adding this to what i know about you, i'd suggest exercise. a bike ride, a bounce on the trampoline. if your brother starts bugging you and asking you why, tell your mum why you're doing it and she'll look out for you, or talk to him.
