My Friend.. - November 6th 2009, 05:41 PM

My friend is so upset. He told me that he has been diagnosed with Schizophrenia (sp?) I feel really bad for him he is taking it really harshly. He thinks he is so unnatural and I want to reassure him, what can I say to him?

Just be there for him. Let your actions speak for you. Let your actions show him that you are there for him. Schizophrenia can be hurting but as long as you are there for him, you will be doing just what he needs. If he wants to tell him to pray and ask for help, God and Christ would love to hear from him.

Just be there for him. When i was diagnosed everyone deserted me (which was the worst thing ever) you don't have to "say" anything. just be there for/with him. Good luck!

Hey there.
Im going to say i agree with the above users. Be there for him. When someone finds someing out like this, its really hard and they need to know they have a friend to lean on. Just try your best and support him.
You sound like a lovely friend to have.~

Re: My Friend.. - November 10th 2009, 04:35 AM

Something to point out is that schizophrenia and related disorders are much more common than people think. My book for Abnormal Psychology which I took about a month ago placed the lifetime prevalence at around 1 in 100, which to put that into perspective is about the prevalence of epilepsy. My best advice for supporting him would be to normalize his experience, for example by sharing that statistic.
