Looking for a support group. - November 25th 2009, 07:40 PM

So I've gone to therapy before, but it didn't really help. I can't ever find someone to talk to that I actually LIKE. One guy I went to was just a jerk, he didn't get certain things I talked about because they were more girl things, you know? Something not too many men could relate to, which was sad because he did help a little. But he also wasn't too good at seeing through my fake smile. Once I get annoyed with a person, I'll fake my way into pretending I'm all better so I can stop seeing them. I swear, I don't try it on purpose, I just never realize it until way later after I've done it -_- Another lady I went to pretty much just always told me I was overreacting [so maybe I was...] and basically told me I was wrong for what I was feeling and tried popping me full of more pills...terrible...

So I've been thinking what I'd like more is a support group where I can talk to other people that know what I'm going through when I'm really struggling with cutting, anxiety, and depression. I'm sick of taking drugs and having stupid old people tell me what to think.

Anyways, where would I look to find a local support group in my area? I tried googling, but I just came up with a bunch of random things I wasn't looking for >.<

Can anyone help?

Google and your phone book are good places to look.
If you post what city you live in I'll try searching to see if I can find something you might have missed.

Thanks. I live in Houston/Spring. If you search around the North Houston area, that's where I'd like to find a place. Thanks for the help!

You could try this site:
http://www.uth.tmc.edu/uth_orgs/hcpc...ealth_info.htm
It has a lot of phone numbers for mental health services in Houston (including support).

If none of those sound like something you need I would still call NAMI (the first group of numbers) and ask them if they know of any support groups in your area.

I would try this one for sure if I were you though:
Depressive/Manic Depressive Assoc.
(713) 528-1546
It says they have support groups and these would be the type of people who have been through what you're dealing with.

Oh my god, thank you so so much for this. You have no idea how desperate I'm getting!

I'll be sure to check it all out right away and run it by the parents.

THANK YOU!!!

No problem, glad I could help.
If you ever need anything else feel free to PM me, I'm on pretty much every day and I've been through what you're going through too.
