Is it normal to have full on conversations in your head? - December 6th 2009, 03:01 PM

Like with yourself? Or sometimes even other people. I honestly don't think I have any sort of multiple personality disorder going on but I sort of brought this up to my mum without thinking and she said she doesn't think it's normal

When I say conversations I mean sometimes imagining future conversations with friends/other people. I day dream a lot too and kind of make up stories/scenarios in my head /: I know it's not real and just do it out of boredom (I mostly do it just before I fall asleep) I just want to know if it's normal because my mum is starting to freak me out.

I think that's pretty normal, I do it myself sometimes. Actually, mostly before I fall asleep like you mentioned

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I don't know if it's normal or not, but I do it all the time.
Especially when I'm waiting to fall asleep.

Phew, thanks guys I used to do it more when I was a child but now it seems to only happen before I go to sleep and before I actually get out of bed.

I think this is completely normal too and the majority of people do have conversations with themselves. I think that the term for it is actually your 'internal dialogue'. I don't see anything wrong with this at all.

I agree with what pretty much everyone has said so far. I think it's completely normal and that most people have conversations with themselves in their heads and I think it's very common right before bed. Don't worry 'bout it. =]

Thanks guys ^____^ always nice to know I'm pretty sane aha I guess it's just something nobody ever talks about so you don't know if other people do it or not.

It's a wretched disease.
Jk! It's normal. Pretty sure.
Do you write? Because I do that a lot with characters I'm writing about. I'll almost like talk to them. Like, I know they're imaginary. But sometimes, it's nicer to "talk" to people that won't judge you, because they are you!
Lol...I feel crazy now for talking about my conversations with my characters...Lol...

I do this a lot too, and it's mostly before bed...or if i'm walking home from somewhere and there's no one around me, i sorta do this to have 'company'. I guess it's normal, especially if most of us here seem to do it xD

I know what you mean! Haha, I have about a dozen characters I've created for stories of mine that I'll have "conversations" with in my head. Usually when I'm bored really, or creating the character. Coming up with their personality and whatnot.

I'm also relieved to hear this is normal because I do it all the time. As long as you know it isn't real and you don't actually hear any voices I think you're ok.
