Lightbulb Nightmares: Teeth Falling Out - January 16th 2010, 09:21 AM

I've had insomnia for 3-4 years now, but when I do sleep the dreams I have are always anxiet filled and reoccuring-nightmares really. The most frequent one is about my teeth falling out. It's a little different each time, but I always end up with no teeth and waking up in a panic.

For my next art piece I'm doing books on my nightmares...so for the hell of it I was looking up dream meanings online. It would seem that dreams about teeth falling out/tooth loss/rotting teeth are actually really common.

I was wondering who/if anyone on here has has the "tooth loss" dream. If so, what happened ? What do you think it means ?

I have these all the time! It's a huge fear of mine. I don't know what it means. Hopefully someone can enlighten both of us

Re: Nightmares: Teeth Falling Out - January 17th 2010, 04:26 AM

Urgh. I've had this before.

In my dream there was a loose bit on the back off my tooth so I wiggled it with my tongue and it just broke off. And then my teeth just crumbled into my mouth like pieces of empty shell or gravelly sand in a sort of domino effect and I was spitting out bits of bits of tooth. Horrible, it makes me shudder when I think about it.

Though most of the time I get them punched or kicked out in my dreams.

And what I think it means is: "I don't want to lose my teeth." I don't think dreams mean anything really.

Ugh, I always have this dream. Had it last night, in fact.

It's awful. I can feel every tiny detail in the dreams, like the awful sensation that occurs RIGHT when the tooth comes out. Or when it's really loose and y ou accidentally bite down on it...gag.

I read that it has to do with insecurities regarding your appearance, but I think that I'm also genuinely afraid of my teeth falling out.

I do think that dreams mean something personally.
I had this dream once before, I don't really remember it but I remember having it.
Personally I think that it could be about the fact that people care so much about the approval of others. Maybe their teeth are high on something they care about, maybe not. But it is something everyone sees so, having no teeth or rotten teeth could, subconsiouslly be something that bothers you.
I care a lot about what people think and if I lost my teeth I don't think I would want to smile again so, it makes sense in my mind.
Don't worry though, most nightmares don't continue for too long.

Life is to short to put it off anymore
You gotta live it before itís too late
I canít turn that clock back around
On what youíre dreaming about
You better do it now, donít wait

Do something crazy and dumb, while your still young. <3

Funny you mention that, I have had that happen only once and it was a wee while ago now...but I had a wiggly tooth (in real life) and i dreamt that i pulled it out but about 5 of my teeth out at the same time. I woke up in a panic and then was scared to pull my real wiggly one out! I just left it at that though not really thinking it meant anything. And because i've only had it once I guess its no big deal really.

This is very similar to most of mine. I have them a lot, and I'm usually around others; sometimes I can identify the person and sometimes I cannot, but typically they seem not to notice or care that all my teeth are falling out. It starts with me picking at something and they all just crumble.... and fall out (very much how you described) and I can feel it...that hard-horrible feeling when you bit down/accidentally chewed on you loose tooth when you were little. It's horrible... I don't really consider these nightmares but they always make me feel so bad and I hate these dreams.

I also dream about vomiting a lot....

I learned in my psychology class that dreams are just part of your sub-conscious. Have you worried about losing anything recently? Or are you very self-conscious about something? Because it has been proved that what happens in dreams is usually what your thinking about day to day and what you think about right before you go to sleep.

I think it's a common thing.
I've had a dream that all my teeth fell out.
It's kind of scary. xD

Dreaming about your teeth falling out is truly scary! That awful feeling of them pouring out your mouth, as if you can actually feel it. Urgh! I've only had them three or four times and started getting them around the time my mum was diagnosed with cancer. They stopped as she got better. I don't know if the two events are linked, but who knows!

On a dream meaning basis.. I was always taught that dreaming of loosing you teeth would indicate a fear of loosing something important, or of someone close to you leaving (or a fear of them leaving)

People have always told me that losing teeth in your dreams means that you feel powerless and vulnerable, or that you are fearful of some kind of change you may soon face. It could also mean you fear failure, financial instability, malnutrition, abandonment, or of being lied to. It definitely signifies some kind of fear.

I for one feel that dreams give us insight into our thoughts. Our brain feels so many different ways, and when we dream it reveals to us some of those emotions. For every dream, there is a thought and a feeling we have felt that we have been unaware of. Dreaming definitely has meaning, and I've always found finding those meanings extremely interesting.

Re: Nightmares: Teeth Falling Out - January 28th 2010, 06:15 AM

i finished my project, so here are the images.
they are all 35mm i.e. darkroom produced, but until i shoot photos of them in the book itself, here they are photo shop-smashed together.

the file had to be made smaller for here, so if you are interested in the larger image (you can see the actual teeth MUCH better) then go to:

www.fender1.deviantart.com

and click tooth nightmare thingy on the left...

Cool images! ^
And I have had the dream about losing my teeth before, I looked it up on some website and it told me that losing teeth in a dream means that you're insecure about something going on in your life, like you feel you have no control over where things are going.
That's just what I've heard xD
I'm pretty sure there's tons of explanations, though.
