I try to get help then I get shouted at =/ - February 1st 2010, 01:06 PM

So a lot of people including people on this site have been saying for a while I should get professional help.
So I went to the doctors and he said he's going to contact the Youth Crisis Team? I think it was that, so I had to bite the bullet and tell my mother which is what always worried me about it.
She flipped and called me an attention seeker and started going on about how they'll come take me away lock me in a room hold me down and and inject me
Is that what happens?
I'm genuinely scared now..
I really regret going for help.
If it makes a difference I live in the UK and I told the doctor I'd been having suicidal thoughts.

That is not what happens at all.
Best thing I can say is to ignore what ur mum says, you are doing this for yourself and you know ur not an attention seeker.
Please try to ignore what she says

Hey Amelia, I'm glad you decided to seek help, it takes a lot of courage to do that. Your mom is wrong, they won't do those things to you. You know you aren't doing this for attention and you're doing it for yourself, not for her if she can't accept it then it isn't your fault. Just remember why you want help and work to get better.

Its unfortunate your mother reacted that way. But, they usually don't even consider institutionalizing someone unless they find justification for such (i.e. you're a potential threat to yourself and/or others). And seems others on here have confessed to suicidal thoughts without being "locked up", so you should be safe.

They don't do anything like that...And you actually didn't have to tell your mom in the first place because you're 18 inless it's diffrent in the UK....There's no need to be scared the only way you'll be put in a hospital is if they think you are a dnager to yourself or other..and as far as injecting you they only do that if your out of control. They will put you in a room and then inject you with something that makes you paralized(at least that's what I got told) I was really close to getting the shot but they decided against it....But honestly there's nothing to be worried about.

We break fast, cause we are glass.
Cause we are glass.

I'm really glad that you decided to open up and get help, that's amazing!
I'm so sorry that your mum reacted in that way though. She might have just been in shock and not have known how to deal with it, it may get easier in time as it settles in.
You most certainly get 'locked up' unless you present concerning behaviour, or they think that you are totally unsafe. Hospitals are always a last resort, so they try to make sure that you're as safe as you can be in the community first.
Also, you'd only get injected if you're completely out of control and you refuse medication, so you have nothing to worry about at the moment.

You deserve to get some help, you shouldn't have to feel like you do right now.

Hey there,

I am really glad that you decided to get help and I want to assure you that that is not what happens. Those people are there to help you and they want to see you get better. They would not want to do any of those things because they know it wouldn't help all that much.

Please hang in there and know that things will get better.

Hey Amelia.

It's really amazing that you went to see your doctor, I'm sure that he will help. You're not doing this for attention, you're doing this because it's the right thing to do and you feel that you need the extra support right now. What your mother said is not going to happen, it won't help you and people are only trying to help you. They will asses your mental state before doing anything like that, and that's a final resort if you refuse medication, rest assured it's unlikely that this will happen so early on, and doubtful that it will happen at all. Try and open up to them and let them help as best they can. Don't be afraid.

My PM box is open if you need anything.
