Mystery Symptoms, Mind Shutting Off -

I need some help, I am going to see a doctor soon, but they couldn't get me in, in the mean time, I was just trying to get some advice. I have this strange "symptom", where I feel like my mind shuts off. my bf says he catches me staring. When he confronts me, I don't hear him at first, because my brain doesn't register hes talking. When i do hear him, he asks how I'm feeling. tells me to shake that feeling I need to engage my mind in something, I try to explain to him that when my body gets like that, I can't shake it, almost like my body is in control, and forces me to tune out. I don't know whats going on, any thoughts?

It doesn't sound like a mental health issue to me. There are a wide range of things that could cause anything like what you're describing, and only a doctor could give you any sort of definite answer.
I will say though that I've had very similar experiences, and mine turned out to be epilepsy. thanks for the advice, though I have taken depakote for what they thought was bipolar, but that didnt help, and since that was also a seizure med as well, i think that would have helped a bit. I think it happens when my mind gets to much stimulus, like i stare and im aware am doing it but i see nothing and think about nothing, and im not in control of it (which is the part that bothers me).

The dosage for bipolar with the seizure medication is A LOT lower than the dosage for epilepsy. Being on a dose for bipolar would have had little to no effect on any seizures you may or may not be having. Even if it did the medication could just not be for you, medication doesn't always work.
Only a doctor could tell you if you do or don't have a seizure problem so don't write it off write away. I zone out during lectures all the time lol. I think it's perfectly normal and I wouldn't get too worried in the mean time.
