I hate people thinking I'm an idiot. - February 15th 2010, 04:22 AM

Okay, so like, I can be kind of dense at times, but I'm not a moron. Not that I'm particularly smart, but I'm not stupid.

But I have a really, really hard time doing anything without very specific instructions. Like umm. Oh gosh, I can't even think of any examples right now. But if someone asks me to do a simple task, I get completely lost without super specific instructions. I get lost in the details of what they want from me, and start asking myself questions like how? like this or like that? did they mean this way?
So people get frustrated with me, and I just...come off as an idiot, to myself as well as others.

What could be behind this? I'm sick of feeling like I'm mentally-handicapped or something.

I do that as well... I don't think I'm exactly stupid, I think maybe you and I just pay too much attention to detail. Might be a form of OCD? I don't know, but that's one thing that's been suggested to me.....

I've done the same thing, and I don't think it's being stupid. Or a form of OCD. If anything, I think people like us OVERTHINK. We over-analyze things, think of too many different possibilities, and drift outside the box.

Others seem to think within a relatively set form of guidelines, but I guess we don't like to think that way, so we seem stupid. Whereas we broaden things too wide and need specifications to understand the task at hand.

Personally, I think really, it makes us smarter, because we think of things that no one else would, so they can't grasp what it's like to think of such possibilities that run through our minds.

Exactly. I've never been great with the simpler things because I over-analyze everything, I think this is very much something to be seen as positive
