Imaginary friends... sort of? -
March 2nd 2010, 12:51 AM
I'm 18 years old, and quite often I find myself talking to... no one. But someone, at the same time. I have conversations with people that don't exist. I speak as both myself, and the other person. I know this isn't normal. But does anyone else do it?

surprisingly as it sounds this is normal. I took an interpersonal communication class and talking to oneself and holding a conversation is perfectly normal. I do this all the time and I always thought I was crazy before that class. I often find myself using it to calm myself down or encourage myself. So don't worry you are perfectly normal

But I'm not talking to myself. I'm talking to another person that doesn't exist. It has absolutely nothing to do with what's going on at the time, or anything that's ever happened in my life. They're completely fake conversations about fake things.

Hey there,
I know quite a few people, myself included, that do this. I do think it's something that's related to our internal dialogue and if you ask people, you may find that it's more common than you think! If you're worried about this though, then don't hesitate to talk to someone, such as a counsellor or a doctor, about what you're experiencing, that may help to put your mind at rest. Take care. |
