I am pretty sure that this information is only written in your medical records. It is your responsibility to notify the school or a job about your mental illness if you feel it necessary.

What do you mean by record? Your medical files? All your visits to the doctor get written in your medical files (or at least should). Only doctors and you can look at your medical files, so nobody else would know unless you told them. Seeing as you're under 16 though your parents could ask your doctor and he could legally tell them, once you're 16 this is no longer the case though.

But like Stacey said, it's up to you to tell other people if you want to.

Hey Leanne,

This information should only be stored on your medical file. When you turn 16, no one else can legally look at that file without a court order. Whilst you are under 15, your parents can also be informed.

If you are worried about schools, universities, colleges or employers finding out - they won't. Not unless you tell them - but that is your decision. Even if they thought there was a problem, the doctors cannot tell them. It is on my medical file, but my school only found out because I told them, they had no idea up until that point. My boss and colleagues have no clue about any of it!

If you think it would be a good idea, then go for it! You are so strong and I believe you can get through this.

Take care.

I'm not sure where you live but I remember my Psychology teacher saying that you could ask them not to write any mental health issues on medical records because of the negative effects they can have on your life. I don't know how true that is though.

I know that here in Canada, it is not written on any files other than your medical records. No one can legally access this information other than you and of course your parents (up until a certain age) and it is not written down anywhere for an employer to see. It is the responsibility of the person applying for a job or school to notify them if your condition is something that may prove detrimental to your performance.
